North Country Angler - Ice fishing derby

Long, cold days and nights have allowed waterbodies to freeze over, providing safe ice fishing conditions. Many area waterbodies have six inches or more of fishable ice. Ice fishing derbies look like they are happening as planned. Ice fishing derbies are run for the benefit of some hard-working charities. Participating in an ice fishing tournament is a great way to spend a winter day outdoors and to help those who are less fortunate.

New Hampshire’s largest ice fishing tournament is the Great Meredith Rotary Ice Fishing Derby. This year will be the 47th Derby. Feb. 7-8 are the dates for the 2026 Derby. Ice anglers from all over the United States participate in this event. While the Derby is headquartered on the shore of Lake Winnipesaukee, you may fish any New Hampshire water body should you decide to participate. Fish have to be brought to the checking station for measuring.
