Western Maine’s Mahoosuc Region on the New Hampshire-Maine border is a playground for outdoor lovers. Hikers know about them because of the challenges of the Appalachian Trail with its notorious toughest mile. Skiers and snowboarders relish them while carving down slopes at Sunday River and Mount Abram.

Mountain bikers can join in, too.
