Most of us like to bike for fun, exercise or transportation. Sometimes you can combine those cycling elements with another activity — raising money for a good cause. There are numerous fundraising events that cyclists participate in that challenge both their riding and solicitation skills. Rides like the Prouty, the Tour De Cure, Bike MS and Trek Across Maine raise money for medical research and treatment.

Other rides raise much-needed funds for nonprofit organizations and their programs. Locally, the Mount Washington Auto Road Hillclimb and Tin Mountain Century Ride are major fundraisers for the Tin Mountain Conservation Center programs. The Loon Echo Trek just completed last weekend was a benefit ride/hike for the Loon Echo Land Trust. But, how many rides do you know of that raise money for a library?
