Conway selectmen will hold a public hearing Sept. 24 on short-term rentals like Airbnb, which have become very popular in the Mount Washington Valley in recent years. The issue, which has been simmering in town for years, heated up recently after planning board member Ray Shakir called on selectmen to do something. He said there have been problems with short-term rentals, including congestion, noise, dogs, litter, lack of maintenance to houses and disrespect of lot lines. Selectman Steve Porter noted “Airbnbs are becoming a little problematic for people living next door.” Selectmen also discussed balancing the rights of homeowners who wish to rent out their homes and have considered limiting the amount of time a house can be rented out as a short-term rental.
This week's Tele-Talk question: Should the town set a time limit on short-term rentals?
