Carroll County Jail Superintendent Jason Henry seeks to implement medication-assisted treatment (MAT) by introducing drugs like Suboxone to addicted inmates; however, County Commissioner Amanda Bevard (R-Wolfeboro) would only allow MAT for inmates who are prescribed it already. Henry said that even if commissioners object to the program, jail doctors would still prescribe MAT since it is the standard of care in the community. If the county refuses to pay for the treatment, Henry worried taxpayers would be set up for a lawsuit. Though Commissioner David Babson supports MAT, Commissioner Terry McCarthy was absent, so Henry will return to see if the commissioners will sign off on the policy.
