To the editor:The Door is Now Open.Well congratulations to the Episcopal Church of New Hampshire for electing a gay bishop. They have just opened wide the door to every person indulging in same sex relations to suddenly desire to become Episcopalians! The tragic, downward spiral of our society, the mockery of God's church, continues. With all due respect to gay men and lesbians who are, too, God's children, with all due respect to the decent people who believe in Rev. V. Gene Robinson as a caring, loving shepherd, this is a sad day for Christianity. It's difficult enough in this day and age to convince a young person to seek the Lord and to try to live a life as God would have us live. It is already too easy for them to call us hypocrites because of so many false "believers" who profess the spirit for the sake of personal or political gain. Now they can add, "how can you tell me that your Bible has any truth in meaning while your church has gay priests and elected known gay bishops?" For a church to bend the meaning of God's scripture because the man is a great guy is kind of like a parent telling their child that the house rules say no drugs and alcohol, but, if you're a good kid, I'll let you smoke some marijuana! I can easily imagine that this child will grow up with the attitude that rules and authority are flexible for his wants and that the Episcopal church will become a safe haven for those who need relief from God's word.
