To the editor:

If the death penalty was such a deterrent, there would be no murders in the country. A murderer usually is not thinking, “I might be executed for this so I will not kill.” And according to N.H. (and other states’ laws), a death penalty invokes an automatic appeal, continuing court cases for years, costing millions. Life in jail costs a lot but pales in comparison to the court costs. And what if the verdict is found wrong? A dead innocent man cannot be brought back.
