To the editor:

New Hampshire remains an island of “no” surrounded by Canada, Vermont, Massachusetts and Maine, where the sale and use of recreational marijuana by adults is legal.

For those who read the excellent Wall Street Journal, there was a great article yesterday by a research scientist who has studied marijuana for decades and the alarm bells are sounding off. I won't repeat all the issues that are being discovered but the headline is that it is not a benign drug which is better than cigarettes. It is causing mental health issues with recreational users and additional traffic accidents. By "legalizing" it, we are encouraging young people to try it and then use it. Beware.
