To the editor:

The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department’s proposal to strip "Designated Trout Pond" status from many state waters highlights a sobering reality: Habitat degradation is fracturing our historic cold water ecosystems. Biologists are right that many waters can no longer support wild, multi-year Eastern brook trout. However, simply dropping these ponds into general regulations misses a massive management opportunity.
