To the editor:

Just days after the governor and state officials expressed concern that incidents of domestic violence and child abuse were being underreported during these stay-at-home orders we learn that our county is releasing prisoners back into our community. How does this make any sense?

Amen! People who commit domestic violation, especially repeat offenders, shouldn't be let out early because of coronavirus -- the violent harm they are likely to do to others outweighs the risk of coronavirus in jail. Our county jail certainly is nowhere near capacity right now despite housing other counties' prisoners, so social distancing on the inside should not be an insurmountable problem.
