I recently learned of the Intervale hotel’s scheduled opening on Dec. 15. I am writing to express my concern regarding the decision to exhibit the tree that was removed during the hotel’s construction. The remains of the tree will be on permanent display in the hotel lobby and will serve as a continual, insensitive reminder and insult of its removal for residents and condominium owners in the area.
The hotel is a beautiful facility. Unlike the ugly, poorly designed condominium project to the rear of the hotel. Residents of the condo project are lucky. Ensconced within they are spared a full view of its unpleasant design.
Trees are lovely, but lamenting having to take down a single tree is ridiculous.
The White Mountain National Forest contains millions of trees. Many of these are regrowth after logging decades ago. Trees are a renewable resource and number in the trillions, and I suspect they will last far longer than us humans.
