To the editor:

Having spent time in Europe, including bicycling in Denmark, I find President Donald Trump's treatment of NATO allies, especially Denmark, appalling.

I, too, have spent time overseas, in over 10 countries.

One thing I have noticed in conversations with people in Europe: There is a certain contingent that believes the US has a moral obligation to support them, no matter what. Of course, some are thankful, but for the most part, not so much. They are more like a spoiled child who has never been told "no". They are also overly obsessed with what we are up to domestically. Usually, from a perspective of snobbish superiority.

So, I'd like to use one of my favorite quotes: "Charity begins at home".

Maybe it's time we focus on our county first and foremost. Maybe it's past time for Europe to have a little humility and appreciation for the support we have given over the decades.

Maybe it's time they provide equal measure, and who knows, actual gratitude instead of overt entitlement.

Maybe it's time to call them out for some of their poor domestic policies and political choices.

Truth be told, they aren't looking too good right now. Especially when you look at how they have handled (mishandled) immigration.

At least we are now trying to deal with the disaster they are experiencing.
