To the editor:

I always write a poem from real experiences. I don’t just make them up, such as this one. This came about in the mid ’70s, when a woman asked if I might go home with her, explaining she had never been with a man and that she was always drawn towards other women. So when all was supposed to begin, lying down, she asked me this question: “If you were in bed with a man right now, how would you feel?” I said, “I would feel like it was going against my grain.” She then quickly replied, “That’s exactly how I feel right now.” Well, that ended that whole experiment and woke me up to my own way of thinking and our mutual FEELINGS. And soon after wrote this poem.
