Every week, Americans are told that "democracy is under attack." The phrase appears on protest signs, in political slogans, on social media and from prominent cable news commentators. Many now treat "democracy" as synonymous with the American system of government itself.
I am unable to work through the above post's confusion. My guess is that it is meaningless. How about some simple math. Demographic trends have made Vermont - with less than a one million people (versus the country's 350 million people) a state with virtually uninhabited. Vermont's GDP is a speck (at 36 billion versus a 30 trillion American GDP). More, still the trend of Vermont getting ever more insignificant - as to both its economy and population - is accelerating. So giving Vermont the same representation in the Senate as, say, Texas, or Florida (huge populations with significant economies) strikes some people as antiquated and in need of adjustment.
As you can see Steve, MEPD tends to blather and bloviate while avoiding any hint of recognition that what he's talking about ignores the facts and/or what's happening in our country. So, while he talks about the separation of powers and checks and balances or an independent judiciary, he ignores that Trump and his MAGA minions are ignoring or destroying those very things.
He'll always continue to try to thread the needle to avoid any hint of criticizing Trump.
He's one of those MAGA cult members that would argue Trump's not a rapist because he was only found responsible for digitally raping a woman by a civil court, even though the judge clearly stated that by any normal definition what Trump did was rape. That's the MAGA mindset, deny, deflect, distract, misinform, disinform, lie, and MEPD pulls out all the tricks. It's truly pathetic.
No Brett, Americans that talk about attacks on democracy are not trying to play semantics about our form of government, they're pointing out that our liar-in-chief and his cronies are attacking it. Stop trying to gaslight people into thinking it's about something else. Stand up for the Constitution and the rule of law, repudiate the MAGA movements attacks on those things instead of playing stupid semantics games.
The United States is a constitutional republic, not a democracy. Every week, Democrats, their media allies, and far-left activists scream that "democracy is under attack" whenever they lose an election, a court case, or a policy fight. This isn't a genuine concern—it's a cynical ploy to regain power and ram through their radical agenda. They deliberately blur the line, pretending America is a pure democracy where majority (or plurality) rule should be absolute. Any constitutional safeguard stopping them gets branded an "existential threat."The Founders rejected that dangerous idea. James Madison in Federalist No. 10 warned that unchecked democracy leads to factional tyranny and mob rule. That's why they gave us a constitutional republic with deliberate restraints: the Electoral College, the Senate, federalism, separation of powers, judicial review, and the Bill of Rights. These tools protect individual liberty from temporary, passionate majorities—especially the coastal elite majorities Democrats rely on. When Republicans win fair elections, or courts block executive overreach, it's called "democracy dying." But when leftists push court-packing, abolish the filibuster, eliminate the Electoral College, or ignore the Constitution for their socialist/extremist and open borders fantasies, that's somehow "defending democracy."
Enough. America is a constitutional republic. We will defend its republican safeguards against the left's majoritarian power grab. We will call it what it is, reject the dishonest rhetoric, and preserve the system that has protected liberty for over two centuries.

Our electoral process has changed very significantly since the founding of our Republic. As merely one example, the United States Senate is now a popular elected positioned rather than an appointed or legislatively elected. Today, the only remaining mechanical functions of our government - that make it a republic - are that each states receive two Senate seats regardless of population and the electoral college system. Change these two (now antiquated) processes and viola we have a democracy. All else said is simply blather.

Oh, Mikey, there you go again.
