To the editor:Apparently both the Kearsage writer and Palin are uninformed about how libraries operate (see Diane Gurien's letter to the editor, Sept. 10). First, libraries are protected under the First Amendment free speech. Second, libraries have policies for procuring and removal of books. The American Library Association (www.ala.org) publishes guidelines for policies affecting library materials through its Office of Intellectual Freedom. That the writer to The Conway Daily Sun is uninformed is of no real consequence, since Im sure our local librarians are informed, as was the librarian in Alaska. However, that Palin was so uninformed about libraries leads this voter to question her knowledge and research capabilities regarding the issues that will come before a vice president. She seems to be misrepresenting facts often.
