Mike DiGregorio's Feb. 24 interview with Mark Guerringue is still available on the Daily Sun's website. I can't commend it for its informational value, but it does offer a classic example of reelection-campaign sophistry by a consummate local politician, consisting of an hour-long exercise in calculated deception.

When I acknowledge someone's extraordinary talents as a politician, it's never meant as a compliment. Mike's interview began with him praising the tuition contracts that he and two subcommittee colleagues negotiated with sending towns. He noted how much money they will save — $400,000 in the case of Bartlett alone — and he expected prompt ratification by Bartlett. It had to be dragged out of him that every dollar those sweetheart contracts save the sending towns is revenue lost to Conway, and Conway taxpayers will now have to make up for it.
