Last winter, Conway's budget committee was told that 1,326 students were enrolled in the Conway School District on October 1, 2025. The SAU 9 report to the state, for the same date, listed 1,330. Given the efforts to keep enrollment up, so as to justify the outrageous expense, four more nonresident employees may have been allowed to enroll their children free of charge by the end of that day.
Or perhaps one of those numbers was just a mistake. Inconsistency has been an occasional problem in Conway school statistics, after all. Many Conway school reports cited historic enrollment figures of 1,318 students for the 1961-1962 school year, but the annual report that year tallied enrollment for our five schools at 1,379 — which, for some unexplained reason, was “adjusted” down to 1,345.
