A couple of years ago a fellow stopped by a job I was working on and asked me if I’d be interested in doing some work for him. He explained that he was a recent transplant from California where things had gotten out of hand. He explained that they actually wanted to ban drinking straws, of all things. I guess he’d never seen the picture of the sea turtle with the plastic straw sticking out of its bloody nose.
Stay with me. Years ago, I visited the Edison museum in Fort Myers and saw, to my amazement, concrete phonograph cabinets. Edison was experimenting with a type of concrete that could be easily and inexpensively cast into useable products like cabinets and furniture. More recently concrete was used to make long-lasting water pipes to bury in the ground.
