It wasn’t long ago that Gov. Chris Sununu, jumping on the Republican border bandwagon, was hot to trot up to New Hampshire’s Canadian border to secure it against the hordes of illegals sneaking across. Said Sununu, “In the past six months, I think you’ve seen northern border crossings go up close to 10 times what they previously were, something like that, so that’s just startling, and I think the fear is that could keep accelerating.” After announcing his plans for a Northern Border Alliance Program, the governor asked the Legislature to fund it, to the tune of $1.5 million.

While a surge is confirmed by U.S. Customs and Border Protection data, the problem seems not to be in New Hampshire, but rather in Vermont and New York. Apparently New Hampshire is not viewed by those entering the country from the north as the dream destination we believe it to be.
