During my Jackson years, the dump store was a wonderful convenience. Prior to moving to Jackson, I’d never known a dump store. Come to think of it, I’d never known a dump.

I lived in two Massachusetts towns, Hamilton and Wenham, both of which provided municipal trash pickup. For those unfamiliar, this is when two prescribed days per week a garbage truck made the rounds and sanitary workers emptied the contents of residents’ trash cans. The only requirement of us was rolling our trash cans to the curb in the morning and later retrieving them.
