Although mass shootings continue to grab our attention, we really need to look at gun violence as a public health problem. Annually in the United States there are about 34,000 gun deaths and 73,000 injuries. Of the deaths, around 13,000 are homicides, with 21,000 suicides. Around 500 are accidental discharge, many of these children. In the homicide category, gang violence accounts for about 2,000, and homicide by an intimate partner about 1,000. In contrast, mass shootings (defined as the shooting of four or more people) kill around 500 per year, about 1 percent of all gun violence deaths.
Gun violence is the third leading cause of injury death, slightly behind motor vehicle accidents which kill around 37,000 per year. The medical cost of each gunshot is about $100,000, resulting in $3 billion total annual medical cost of gun violence. Many of these patients are uninsured, resulting in cost-shifting to taxpayers. Indirect costs including lost wages and disability are about $100 billion per year.
Apparently you can take the settlers out of the old west, but not the old west out of settlers, especially that old west mentality that whomever is locked and loaded the most, gets to make the rules. It's not too much different than building up weapons and bomb arsenals to invade other nations the US government says shouldn't possess what IT has for decades.Yes, a segment of our population loves guns. I've been at many meetings where appointed participants brag about their stashes, even a couple times, brandished the hand gun with almost orgasmic glee... But let us not forget, it's NOT guns that kill people. It's people who pull the triggers.. So let's remove the triggers!!!! Gun violence is a symptom. The disease that created the need for them is what needs analyzing ...

....a gun in the home is more likely to be a liability." Doctor, only if you're an idiot. No gun in my home has ever been a problem.
