Conservatism in America no longer exists. Throughout American history there has been a philosophical debate between believers in small government and individual freedom, and those who see government as a source of progress and enhancement of our quality of life. For the past century, the Republican Party has generally stood for the conservative viewpoint.

America had no national police force until President Abraham Lincoln created the Secret Service. Unfortunately, the only role he assigned to that organization was to fight counterfeiting.
