• While the short-term rental market has boosted sales of homes and encouraged renovations, it also has crowded out year-round tenants, as well as threatened to change the character of some neighborhoods and, according to operators of inns, serves as unfair competition, since such rentals are not regulated, aren’t subject to safety codes and often don’t pay the rooms and meals tax. Against this backdrop, traditional vacation ownership continues to be a powerful economic engine for the Mount Washington Valley.
