New Hampshire Gov. Kelly Ayotte and business leaders celebrated the passage of the Child Day Care Tax Credit Program in the Legislature this month, a bill that would allow businesses to receive a tax credit for creating new childcare spots. However, childcare providers say they are skeptical the bill will increase capacity as intended.

House Bill 1433 creates the program, which would allow businesses to become eligible for a tax credit if they expand childcare by creating 12 or more new spots or pay an existing childcare program to do so. A qualifying business would be able to claim up to a 50% credit on business expenditures against the state’s business profits or business enterprise taxes.
