(The Center Square) — Gov. Janet Mills has vetoed a proposal that would have made Maine the first state in the nation to set a temporary ban on energy-hungry artificial intelligence data centers.

Last week, the Maine Legislature approved a bill that would block data centers using more than 20 megawatts of power until November 2027 to give state leaders time to come up with new rules and regulations for the facilities.
