WASHINGTON — U.S. Rep. Chris Pappas says a new bill he’s introducing in Congress is aimed at helping food pantries in places like Carroll County keep protein on the shelves as grocery prices continue to climb — a problem local providers say has been building for months.

Pappas recently met with Carroll County food pantry directors, many of whom he  heard from during a February roundtable at the Madison Food Pantry, where leaders described a system under strain from rising demand, shrinking federal support and gaps in critical supplies like meat.
