GILFORD  — A New Hampshire teenager is dead after a skiing accident at Gunstock Mountain Resort in Gilford.
Gilford High School Principal Anthony Sperazzo sent a message to members of the school community on Tuesday morning, saying the victim, Sydnie Quimby, was a freshman at Gilford High School.
Quimby was 15 years old, according to officials.
"This is a sad loss for our community," Sperazzo wrote. "We are working diligently to support our students, staff, and families."
Gilford Fire Chief Stephen Carrier said the accident occurred after noon Monday. Quimby was sent to Laconia Hospital and later to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center with a head injury. She later died, officials said.
According to witnesses, Quimby was skiing when she went off the Derringer Trail and suffered the injury, Tom Day, president and general manager of Gunstock Mountain Resort, said.
"For us, it’s a sad thing. Our hearts go out to the family. It’s a difficult time for them and the Gunstock family," Day said.
