TAMWORTH — On Sunday, June 8, just after 9 p.m., police and EMS were dispatched to 17 Leaf Lane for a report of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest. Upon arrival, officer Peter Beede witnessed a man later identified as Christopher Chase, 49, of Tamworth, performing life-saving measures on a woman, later identified as being 37 years old and from Milton, according to Tamworth Police Chief Dana Littlefield.

Police said it appeared the woman had attempted suicide with a .38 Special-style short-handled pistol with a single shot to the upper left chest. She was transported to MaineHealth Memorial Hospital and later flown to Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine, where she was listed in stable condition.
