CONWAY — Today, selectmen will meet with their attorneys for the first time since a federal judge ruled that Conway incorrectly enforced its sign ordinance against Leavitt’s Country Bakery’s mural of doughnuts and pastries over its door.
The mural was created by Kennett High School students several years ago. Code Enforcement Officer Jeremy Gibbs determined that it was an oversized sign and the zoning board of adjustment agreed. The town then demanded that owner Sean Young take it down or change it. In response, Young filed a lawsuit.
It boggles my mind that you let Chain stores in like Dunkin Donuts, Loews, Home Depot and many others, but you give this Business a hard time about a sign. Maybe they are not giving a big enough kick back to the town? Maybe he should “Norman Rockwell”it up a bit to fit it in to your purist image. Here’s a thought, times are hard enough. He’s just trying to make an honest living..ease up!
