MADISON — As communities around the nation honor those who served their country on Veterans Day, six local veterans were celebrated Sunday in a Quilts of Valor ceremony at Madison Elementary School, with each veteran receiving their very own handmade quilt.
The recipients were Army Specialist 4th Class Stephen Dolan of Madison; Air Force Senior Airman Rebecca Gargan of Conway; Air Force Chief Master Sgt. Michael Girouard of Madison, who is currently on active-duty reserve; Coast Guard Commander Sharon Schilling of Madison; Air Force Master Sgt. Noel Smith of Madison; and Army Major Trent Weston of Madison. Also receiving a quilt was Marine Sgt. Russell McInnis Sr. of Madison, who was unable to attend the ceremony so quilters delivered it to his home afterwards.
