CONWAY — Area police departments are thankful that the first snowstorm of the season didn’t cause a slew of serious crashes. Meanwhile, ski areas are grateful to get a base of white stuff, as many plan to open next weekend.

Brian Fitzgerald, director of education for the Mt. Washington Observatory and a weather observer, officially recorded 5.4 inches of snow at the Pine Street weather station from the Thanksgiving Day storm.
