FREEDOM — When Tava Nicoll’s father noticed that the town of Freedom’s deed to its forest required there be an educational component to the town’s stewardship, Nicoll knew this was a project she could take on. In doing so, she has earned Girl Scouting’s highest honor for those in high school, the Gold Award, for her project, called Educational and Interactive Forest Trails.

Nicoll, 18, spent more than 83 hours on the sign project, which required working with the Freedom Conservation Commission, researching the various environments along the trail, designing 13 signs, and installing them along the 4 miles of trails.
