Cecelia (Cece) Crapser joined the WAVES at age 21. She signed up to be a yeoman — similar to a secretary, which she had been previously — but was told they had no openings at that school. There were openings for airline mechanics, but she told them she didn’t like to get her hands dirty. She finally accepted an opening at radio school.
