BARTLETT — “I’ve been working on the railroad” has always had a catchy ring to it, and back in the day, it was no doubt a popular song for those who worked for the Portland & Ogdensburg Railroad, later the Maine Central.

Known today for its recreational pursuits — hiking, mountain biking and skiing — Bartlett was originally a farming community dating back to 1790. Then, in the 19th century, the sleepy town turned into a teeming railroad and logging center.
