Amen. I agree 100% with Dr. Morem's sentiments, which is one of the reasons that factored into my decision for early retirement from the district. Her letter eloquently outlines the challenges and risks associated with the position, particularly the political and personal agendas that can undermine the efforts of dedicated professionals.

Her concerns about the impact of Mr. Marvel's divisive and defamatory rhetoric resonate deeply with me. His relentless attacks on the value of the MWV Career & Technical Center erode the progress of the students who aspire to achieve more than the limited and narrow ambitions he represents. These students aim to build successful careers and lives beyond the limited scope of a once-a-week newspaper columnist, an author of several books, and someone who constantly boasts about a false sense of virtue in his frugality.

Throughout my career, I have witnessed how such negative influences can derail the efforts of even the most capable leaders. The constant need to shield oneself from unwarranted criticism and personal attacks takes a significant toll on one's ability to focus on the critical work of improving education for our children.

Dr. Morem's decision to decline the superintendent position underscores the urgent need for the board and community to address these issues. It is imperative to create a supportive environment where educators can work without fear of baseless defamation and where constructive criticism is welcomed, but not at the expense of personal integrity and professional credibility.

I join Dr. Morem in urging the board to pave a reasonably navigable path for future leaders by addressing the underlying issues that allow such destructive behavior to persist. Our educators and students deserve a community that values collaboration, respect, and a shared commitment to excellence.
