OSSIPEE — On Thursday, shortly before 11:30 a.m., New Hampshire Fish and Game was notified that a hiker was injured near the summit of Bayle Mountain. The hiker was Pamela Osborne, 51, of Verona, NJ. Osborne was hiking with her husband and daughter when she injured her ankle while descending from the summit. Osborne was unable to bear weight on her injury. The group placed a call for help, and along with Conservation Officers, members of Center Ossipee, West Ossipee, Madison, and Tamworth Fire Departments and Lakes Region Search and Rescue responded.
Osborne was about 1 mile from the trailhead. She was treated, placed in a litter, and carried out. Sections of the trail were very steep and required the litter to be rope lowered. The team eventually got her to a waiting ATV which transported her to an ambulance. She arrived back at the ambulance shortly after 4:00 p.m. and was taken to Huggins Hospital in Wolfeboro for treatment.
