FRYEBURG, Maine — Fryeburg officials seeking a safer way for kids to cross Portland Street at Pine Street on their way to and from school are looking into having the state move a crosswalk.

The subject came up at the Jan. 18 board of selectmen's meeting, when Selectman Richard Murray, who works as a deputy for Oxford County Sheriff's Office, mentioned a new law that allows crossing guards under the auspices of local police departments to direct traffic in order to assist schoolchildren near schools.
