CONWAY — Fire danger has been high and tubing has been slow this month as August has dragged on without much rain to speak of. However, due to plentiful groundwater, wells aren't running dry, there were scattered showers on Wednesday and a 65 percent chance of rain on Friday.

Saco River Tubing Center owner Peter Gagne, who has been hit hard by the drought, summed up water levels on the river by saying, "A baby can crawl faster than you can float."
