CONWAY — Conway Parks and Recreation kicked off its eight-week summer camp last week and while the number of campers is down for the first time in four years, it was memorable first few days for several hundred kids, said Rec Director Michael Lane, who praised his staff for how they responded to adversity.

Camp, for boys and girls age 5-13 from Conway and Albany, opened on June 19 in nearly 100-degree temperatures. The next day, campers and counselors dealt with an emergency evacuation due to a propane truck catching fire in Conway Village.
