CONWAY — Judging by a tour of the Conway Police Station that Chief Chris Mattei recently gave, it quickly became obvious why the chief requested selectmen to fund a $35,000 study to look into expanding or replacing the 35-year-old, 8,000-square-foot building at 35 East Conway Road.

While guiding a reporter and photographer through some of the rooms, Mattei explained that most of the holding cells are accessed by a narrow hallway with cells on one side and a cinderblock wall on the other.
