CONWAY — A stretch of dangerous heat and the potential for severe thunderstorms is expected to grip the Mount Washington Valley beginning Wednesday, prompting local officials to urge residents to take precautions.

The National Weather Service in Gray, Maine, said a warming trend will bring hazardous heat to the region Wednesday through at least Friday, with the hottest conditions expected Thursday. Forecasters say the heat could linger into the weekend.
