BERLIN — The city council Monday night voted to accept a $250,000 grant to hire a consultant to advocate in Concord for school funding reform.

The grant from the Nellie Mae Education Foundation will be used to educate legislators and state officials on the impact the loss of education stabilization aid has had on Berlin and other property poor North Country communities. The Legislature voted to phase out stabilization aid over 25 years. Berlin received $5.4 million annually and so far has seen that figure reduced by $879,295.
