BARTLETT — “The bottom line is we want students in school,” Josiah Bartlett Elementary School Principal Phyllis Bellemare said, sharing with the Bartlett School Board that attendance is not where she’d like it to be at the pre-K-to-grade-8 school. A couple of students have missed more than half of the school days since classes started in September.

The board, aside from encouraging families to send their students to school, is also fine-tuning its attendance policy to match those of schools across the district. Policy JH — “Attendance, Absenteeism and Truancy” — received its first reading at the board’s Oct. 7 meeting.
