Selectman Mark Hounsell said Wednesday he has decided not to run for New Hampshire House of Representatives this fall.Hounsell had considered running for a two-year term as an Independent but aftr talking with family and friends has decided against it.As I raised the idea of becoming a candidate, I noted only a few offered a positive response," he said. "Upon the advice of friends and family members I have decided not to pursue election to the New Hampshire House of Representatives. The worse and saddest situation for both an aged athlete and a long-serving politician to find themselves in is not knowing when to call it quits. Having spent the better part of the last 30 years in politics, I have come to the conclusion my time of public service as an elected official is winding down. I look forward to completing my final year as a selectman of the town of Conway, and above all I pray I have been of some help and the scales of my accomplishments tip to the side of good.State Rep. Carolyn Brown, R-Conway, will not be seeking reelection to her District 1 seat in the fall. Former Conway selectman Karen Umberger has announced that she will run for the seat as a Republican.
