CONWAY — It's been a stellar summer and early fall for blue skies and sunny weather, and now that autumn is officially here, it's a good time to head out to local orchards to do some apple picking, one of the traditional rites of the season.

Although the weather has been perfect for apple picking and other fall pursuits, there has been concern n the southern part of the state regarding the drought and its impact on the apple crop. Here in Carroll County, where conditions are rated "abnormally dry," but not drought, there also has been an impact on the size of apples, but the good news is that there is less blight and the taste is sweet.
