It’s bad enough that we’re a divided nation on so many levels, but it’s much worse when we come to hate each other. Hatred is a horrible thing in any guise but when it becomes commonplace, and worse, accepted as the new normal, it only serves to destroy.

I don’t know how to unite a nation that is divided, but I do know that making the divisions worse won’t help. Hatred is most often fear based and the rhetoric built around fear over the last few years has taken over what we used to call the ‘airwaves’. Once upon a time, our leaders found ways to inspire and unite us, not as individual manipulable demographics, but as part of a whole. Yes, our nation has come to blows around this before, but never have the stakes been so high.
