As we approach the Christmas season, a decision needs to be made about real trees, wreaths, kissing balls and swags or artificial ones. The list of pros and cons can go on and on but here’s one for the real grown from seed variety preference list: bonfire.
The Effingham Firefighters Association will be holding its annual “Burning of the Greens.” Bring you real tree down to Station 2 after the holidays are over and leave it to be placed with others, and on Jan. 6 the match will be lit. The department will take in used greens any time after Dec. 25. All you need to do is drop them off at Station 2. Where to put them shouldn’t be too hard to figure out, but the more greens the bigger the bonfire. Refreshments will be served and the flames will commence at 6 p.m. No man-made products please. Drop them off when you can and then return on Jan. 6 for a scorching good time. It should be noted that contributions of seasonal greenery are not required to show up for the big event, everyone is invited.
