Paul Edward Jackel, Sr, 80, of Glen, died late Monday night, Nov. 24, 2008, in North Conway, following a long illness.Born in Webster, Mass. on July 9, 1928, Mr. Jackel was the son of Augusta and Max Jackel. He was a 1946 graduate of Bartlett High School, where he lettered in three varsity sports. Mr. Jackel enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1947 and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.On Aug. 5, 1951, Mr. Jackel married Dorothy Anne Brack, daughter of Myrtle and William Brack, and together they had six children. He was the owner and operator of Middlesex Fruit, a Belmont, Mass. retail store, for more than 40 years. Faithful customers remember his personal charm and smile, and his integrity as a hard-working business owner. Mr. Jackel was also a charter member of the Lutheran Church of the Savior in Bedford, Mass., and a resident of Wakefield, Mass. for 42 years.Mr. Jackels devotion to family and his care for his loved ones was deep. He is survived by his beloved wife; his daughters, Debra Buxton, of Ashburnham, Mass., Susan Layton, of Tewksbury, Mass., Nancy Rosen, of Dallas, Texas, and Kristine Cotter, of Glen; his sons Paul Jackel, of New York, N.Y., and Eric Jackel of Groton, Mass.; grandchildren, Cristal Buxton, and Jake, Amy, and Evan Cotter; great granddaughter, Mackenzie Buxton; two sisters, Louise Cyr, of Webster, Mass, and Esther Wood, of Worcester, Mass; one brother, Walter Jackel, of Webster, Mass., and many nieces, nephews, and family members.Visiting hours will be held at Furber and White Funeral Home, located at 2925 White Mountain Highway in North Conway, from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 28. Funeral services will be held at the Lutheran Church of the Nativity, corner of Main and Grove streets in North Conway, at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 29.In lieu of flowers, Mr. Jackels family requests that donations be made in his memory to the American Lung Association, www.lungusa.org, (800) USA-LUNG.
