BROWNFIELD, Maine — Stone Mountain Arts Center in Brownfield, Maine will be presenting the return of Vance Gilbert Saturday, June 22, at 8 p.m.
Gilbert is like a folkie trapped in a vaudevillian body. He has a voice that could have been on the opera stage, a wit that could have been on a comedy stage and a songwriting talent that has thrust him onto the folk stage for decades.
His new album, "Bad Dog Buffet," is described as, wry, aching, hysterical, evocative, provocative, fun, beautifully sung, and consummately played all at once. And that is Gilbert, too.
After opening Shawn Colvin’s 1992 Fat City tour, Gilbert took much of America by storm and by surprise.
“With the voice of an angel, the wit of a devil, and the guitar playing of a god, it was enough to earn him that rarity: an encore for an opener,” wrote the Fort Worth Star-Telegram in its review of a show from the Colvin tour.
