Nancy L. Smith

Nancy L. Smith, 87, of West Side Road, in North Conway, N.H., surrounded by her family, died on April 29, 2026, after a long illness. Born in North Conway to F. Joseph and Josephine Smith, Nancy lived her entire life in the Mount Washington Valley.

Nancy was a strong advocate for the rights of the developmentally disabled. In 1969, she was one of the first officers of the Conway Regional Association for Retarded Children, Inc. (C.R.A.R.C.). This group worked tirelessly to establish standards and programs for people in the valley with disabilities. The group was instrumental in establishing the Center of Hope, currently known as Northern Human Services.
